Steve Waterman

2 July 2025, Barrington Arms

This show lived up to its promise; it was indeed a real treat. Although the line-up was substantially revised from that which we expected, the musicianship was fantastic. In a Latin Jazz setting, electric bass guitar worked fantastically and drums with added timbales, block and cowbell really captured the Latin feel.

In a set that took us from Cuba to Argentina and through Brazil peaked, oddly, in Whitstable; two of the stand-out tunes of the evening were Steve’s own compositions – the wittily named Songo for Mia (dedicated to his daughter) and Lonely Streets (a reflection of the strange days of the COVID lock-downs). Overall, the set was truly a tour de force of Latin inspired Jazz. If Steve and the gang come back this way, be sure not to miss them!
