The provisional running order is:

The Bateman Brothers
All-Star traditional jazz band

The Bateman Brothers All-Star Jazz Band Ian and Alan Bateman have been running one of the UK’s most successful jazz bands on the professional jazz circuit for 15 years. They are best known for their tribute shows to Louis Armstrong and the 1960’s trad boom. They have also been entrusted with the continuation of Kenny Ball’s legacy with their ‘Kenny Ball’s Greatest Hits’ show.
Ian and Alan both live in Swindon and have assembled an all-star line-up of musicians for this traditional, jazz spectacular.
Joining Ian and Alan will be Trevor Whiting on clarinet (ex Chris Barber) and Richie Bryant on drums (ex Acker Bilk). Also joining them will be bass maestro Ashley John Long and ace banjo player and skiffle king, Warren James, whose portrayal of the great Lonnie Donegan is earning him bookings far and wide – we might even fit a few ‘Lonnie’ numbers in!

Zoe Francis and Jim Mullen quartet

Multi award-winning guitarist, Jim Mullen and vocalist, Zoe Francis began working together in 2013, recording their 1st album, “The Very Thought of You”, live at the 606 club with a leading UK line up.
In a career spanning more than 50 years, Jim has recorded and toured the globe with many artists including Brian Auger, Average White Band, Gene Harris, Terry Callier, Jimmy Smith, Johnny Griffin, Frank Wess, Benny Green, Herbie Mann, Mose Allison, Van Morrison, Kokomo, Georgie Fame, and Dick Morrissey with whom Jim shared a 15 year partnership in a much-loved UK band, Morrissey Mullen.

Zoe Francis found her love of Jazz while living in New York, through the workshops of Barry Harris and performing with great musicians on the New York scene. Zoe selects great classic songs, though often lesser known, her tone and love of a great lyric draw the listener in. She has toured and recorded 4 albums, most recently “Somewhere in The Night”.
Joining Jim and Zoe will be stellar musicians, Calum Gourley bass, and Steve Brown drums.

The New Foxtrot Serenaders

The New Foxtrot Serenaders playing the music of the 1940s featuring the music of those great musicians Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Bing Crosby and Sammy Davis Junior.

The Hottest little Big Band in the South and West (Eastbourne Herald) are a seven-piece British dance band specialising in popular songs and dance music from the 1920s to the 1940s. Graham Wright is the leader of the Band playing Trumpet, Cornet and vocals. He has been blowing since the age of 10 and did his grounding in the Band of the Irish Guards where he rose to principal Trumpet. His love of 30’s and 40’s Dance Band music came from listening to 78rpm records of the British Dance Bands on a wind-up gramophone. Graham teaches at St John’s School in Leatherhead and still plays as a free-lance Trumpeter.

Paul Williams plays Alto and Soprano Sax as well as Clarinet and Flute and learnt his instruments in Manchester. Another band member who played in the Irish Guards Band where he completed 15 years. He now plays free-lance and can be found in orchestras from Symphony to Funky Soul Bands.

Nick Charles is an outstanding saxophonist, clarinettist & flautist of many years’ experience having played with The French Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Richard Pywell on Trombone, was exposed to Big Band Jazz after listening to Stan Kenton playing Intermission Riff. He is a much-travelled musician through having worked with a marvellous collection of touring Bands such as Loose Tubes, Bournemouth Sinfonietta, the Memphis Belle swing orchestra and the Bert Kaemphert Orchestra as well as playing in the Musical ‘Chicago’ in both the West End and touring productions.

Roland Perrin, piano, is Head of London College of Creative Music. Originally Classically trained but also inspired by Blues, Pink Floyd and now Latin, Afro and Jazz Dance music.

Phil Berry, Double bass is an experienced musician who plays with a varied selection of groups including the Roger Beaujolais quartet and the Cafe Zazuos Hot Club Gypsy Jazz Quartet.

Kevin Miles, former Royal Air Force drummer, led the renowned Squadronaires Dance Band—formed from RAF musicians during the 1940–45 war and still one of the UK’s top Big Bands. He performs widely and has played in the West End musical Chicago and with the Serenaders for five years.

The Ducato Hot Club Quartet

The group have proved so popular that we had to invite them again to this year’s festival. Ducato is one of the best Gypsy-style Guitarists currently playing in the UK and Europe. Not surprising, as he was born in Poland and his family are descended from pure Roma stock.
He has been playing Guitar since his father put the instrument in his hands at age 10 then, during many years of practising and imitating other Guitarists, he came into contact with the

distinctive style of Gypsy Jazz. His greatest influence came when he heard the music of the great Django Reinhardt and the quartet of the Hot Club of Paris. He has played with some of the great European Gypsy Jazz greats: Mozes Rosenberg, Patrick Sausois, Romane, Samson Schmidt and Django’s grandson David Reinhardt.
He is accompanied by Giacomo Smith on Clarinet, Simon Moore on Guitar and David Mantovani on Double Bass.

Sam Braysher Quartet

Sam Braysher – alto saxophone
Will Barry – piano
Tom Farmer – double bass
Steve Brown – drums

Sam Braysher, “whose warm tone and consonant and inquisitive approach to harmony is attracting growing attention on the British jazz scene” (All About Jazz) is a London-based alto saxophonist.
He has received widespread critical acclaim for his three albums to date, and for his international collaborations with Sara Dowling, Michael Kanan and Jorge Rossy.
Accompanying Sam is an all-star rhythm section, comprising virtuosic pianist Will Barry (Wynton Marsalis, Alex Hitchcock) MOBO award-winning bassist Tom Farmer (EMPIRICAL, Joe Stilgoe) and ultra swinging drummer Steve Brown (Barry Harris, Scott Hamilton).
Following on from a string of sold out gigs (including Ronnie Scott’s) and an album exploring the fascinating Berlin-to-Broadway songs of Kurt Weill, Sam’s next project took a look at music by French film composer Michel Legrand.  Expect to hear classic songs and hidden gems from the Legrand and Weill catalogues, as well as music by adjacent American Broadway composers like Rodgers & Hammerstein, Gershwin and Harold Arlen.

“I can’t think of another alto saxophonist with a sound quite like Sam Braysher’s” (Dave Gelly- The Observer)

“Braysher’s cool, modernist twist on old songs is just superb” (Simon Adams, Jazz Journal)

We look forward to welcoming you on 12th September.
